This is my journal, welcome to it! I'm glad you're here. This is my place to record whatever I'm not too lazy to put up, and I make NO apologies for what it contains, as the contents reflect my particular state of mind at the time, so be prepared! Now, about me:

I'm just your typical geeky, semi-fangirlish (I've had my rabies shots, thank you very much) type of ex-college student (no, I didn't graduate, and no, I don't ever want to go back--there, I've said it, now move along!). Not much to say, although I like science and language, to the point where, when world-building I can get fairly in-depth as to the biologies of my races and I'm working on making a working language for it.

Okay, I'm not really a scientist, but I prefer to have something resembling a plausible "why" when it comes to my creations rather than a "because I said so." However, I truly cherish language. It is perhaps my deepest love, and I am willing to fight to defend it if necessary. Hence, I do NOT tolerate flagrant abuse of language. I understand struggling with an unfamiliar language and casual use of it, but you DO NOT RAPE MY MOTHER TONGUE! Netspeak, l3375p34k, and all of their odious kin are complete abominations, as far as I'm concerned. I do not find it funny or acceptable in the least. If you cannot be bothered to put forth an effort to use language properly, then generally speaking, I cannot be bothered with YOU.

So, then, I must be a writer, correct? Eh, something like that, I suppose. I have some things that I tinker on every now and again, most notably my in-the-works Pathwalker and my collection of names (yes, I collect and arrange them by their language/culture of origin. Bruce Lansky is my unofficial hero.). Otherwise, my writing muse has moved to a faraway galaxy from which she occasionally sends me cryptic postcards. Sad, but true. Still, if you're at all interested in my writing, you can go to my community, iladala!

But, I must read a lot, right? Eh, not really, no. It's not that I don't WANT to (I'm a bibliophile, really!), I just don't have the time to read for pleasure much anymore--especially since I'm a new mommy to a beautiful bouncing baby boy named Adrian who was born October 19, 2006. Even the "pleasure" books I pick up are usually only done so for research purposes involving that particular book. Nor do I read fanfics much. I just don't get rabid enough to want to read them much, especially since I'm a canon purist for the most part. I will, however, look over someone else's works if they ask me to, and I'll give nothing less than my honest opinion about it phrased as tactfully as I can manage, but I do not claim to be a personal editor for anyone, although I AM a grammar Nazi.

Right. So, then, what DO I do? What, you mean besides be a mother to my son? Good question. At the moment, not a lot. Not that I get paid for it or anything, but I suppose I style myself as an artist. I have several media that I play with: pencils, CG, animated music videos, sewing, writing, photography... I'm an amateur at most of these, but there are people out there who like my work, so I keep on doing it! If you're at all interested in my AMVs, you can go here to see them. And, if you'd prefer to take a look at my photos, you can go here to see them. There are new photos pretty much everyday there, and while I'm not afraid to disrobe for more artistic shots, only my Flickr friends are allowed to see some of them.

Okay... So, what's up with the name? "Mirisa Ardruna"? Say what? Well, "Ardruna" happens to be one of my names in Elvish (meaning "as long as memory serves"), although my actual name translates to "Artuntaure" in Quenya. The "mirisa" part comes from Mirlivas, the language I'm writing. It translates to "elf-lady," and is the proper address for a female elf. Yeah, I dig pointy ears.

Religiously speaking, I was brought up ELCA Lutheran, or as we like to joke among some of my friends, "Catholic-Lite." However, despite having honest respect for people who are devout Christians (or devout anything, for that matter) so long as they don't try to push it on me, Christianity simply was not right for me. I have since converted to Paganism (specifically a Persephonic path), and I'm quite happy that way. Furthermore, I also identify myself as Elfkin (as if you hadn't guessed already), though I do not believe that being Otherkin is necessarily representative of any particular religious view.

Politically, I'm a card-carrying registered member of the Nebraska Democratic Party. Yes, that means I'm one of those pro-choice, pro-research, pro-sex-education liberals. Oddly enough, though, I'm also pro-temperance. That means I don't drink EVER, and honestly would prefer it if other people didn't either. I'm not asking you to agree with me, and I'm not asking to pick any fights over those, however. You want to debate with me, though, I'm all for it, but let's keep it out of the mud, mmmkay? If it helps, the vast majority of my standings have only been reached after careful thought and deliberation (so I have my reasons, even if they only make sense to me), and I'm also more of a moderate liberal than a far-left radical.

Sexually, I'm officially straight, but I'm not beyond experimentation. I'm a genuine switch as far as the D/s lifestyle goes, though I usually favor a sub position, and, for the most part, nearly anything goes. Furthermore, I'm a true-born sadomasochist. However, all experimentation is done following a roughly 50-point survey and evaluation process, so be forewarned.

Astrologically speaking, I'm a Libra born in the middle of the afternoon during the Year of the Rat (specific birthdate info: Sunday, September 30, 1984, 4:17 p.m. in Grand Island, Nebraska). My Mercury lies in Libra, my moon, Mars, Uranus and Neptune in Sagittarius, my Venus, Saturn and Pluto in Scorpio, with Jupiter in Capricorn. As for a rising sign, oddly enough I can't get a proper consensus on it. Of seven different authorities presented with the same information and using the same charting systems, 2 say Capricorn (which I personally stand by), 2 say Aquarius, 2 say Pisces... and one even made a claim for Aries. Make of that what you will.

Personality-wise, I suppose I'm best described as mercurial, kaleidoscopular and downright confusing. While I'm usually in higher spirits than the average bear, I can shift without warning into places where no sane person dares to tread. When I do fall, I fall hard, and I've been known to drag down with me anyone who tries to catch me along the way, but by the same token, I can shoot upward like a rocket and uplift whoever might be close enough for me to touch. When I'm up, it's tough for anyone but myself to bring me down, and when I'm down, it's tough for anyone but myself to bring me up, so I offer this advice to anyone who may feel the need to try to cheer me:

1) Don't bother with things like "Are you okay?", "What's wrong?" and/or "You can talk to me if you need to." While such statements are appreciated as a gesture of friendship, they are otherwise worthless toward me. It's plain and simple--if I want to talk about it, I will. I'll launch into a rant on it, often with little to no preamble. If I DON'T want to talk about it, nothing you say or do will get me to do so, so don't try to pry/coax/force it out, because, contrary to the norm, it will actually make things worse.

2) Don't apologize to me, unless you can be sure that something you did has directly caused me to feel this way, and even then, give me a few hours and you'll be forgiven.

3) I will try to push you away, so don't be surprised if I request that you depart. It's wise to back off if I do this, but, no matter what I might say, don't leave me alone, because it's only when I'm alone that things can go from bad to dangerous.

4) Trust that it will pass. No matter how far I fall, assuming I haven't done something to myself in the meantime, I will be back to my usual self within a day.

I'm not much for conflict and I'm all over compromise like a cheap whore, but if you try to go head-to-head with me on something I feel strongly about, I can be stubborn to the last. Fortunately, no matter how stubborn I'm being, I like to be NICE about it, so my arguments are frequently presented more like diplomatic debates than screaming matches...mostly. Even I'm not above the occasional temper tantrum or bitchfest. After all, I do claim the creation of the Textual Bitchslap (tm), which goes as follows:
\(-_-) (-_-)/ \(-_-)

When it comes to other people, while most people see me as a kind, friendly, charismatic young woman, I have a tendency to keep things to myself. I'm a community lurker more often than not, and for the most part, I don't initiate contact with someone unless I have a specific reason to do so. I'm usually of the idea that if someone needs or wants to talk to me, then they'll do so of their own accord. This often leads to me being the sort that's on the fringes of the proverbial loop and the odd-woman-out, but that's ok. If I need to know something, then I will get the required knowledge...eventually, anyway. However, for all my apparent reservation of interaction, those who call me "friend" often find me to be a refuge. I always have an ear to listen, a shoulder to cry on and an arm to embrace when I'm needed. I will comfort, though I don't usually coddle, and I do my damnedest to do what's needed of me.
